Our Story

A Different Eye for the Stones

A three-million-dollar deal would be sealed on a little slip of paper and a handshake. That was all it took. The business was built on trust — and I built my life on it. Malka Roizen, President
Malka Roizen, President of Baguette Mondial
Malka Roizen · President

Malka Roizen is among the very few sole-proprietor diamond specialists who is a woman. She brings a different eye to the stones — a perspective her customers have come to value as much as her precision. Her story begins long before Baguette Mondial, in a trading hall that didn’t want her there at all.

Ramat Gan · 1979

The Trading Floor

Malka was twenty-one, fresh out of the Israeli army, when a family friend brought her into the diamond bourse in Ramat Gan — Israel’s diamond district. She studied by night and worked the floor by day, stepping each morning into a world of fortunes and back out each evening into ordinary life. It was a man’s world, and many objected to a woman joining them in the hall.

On her first day, a man closed the door on her as she carried in the coffee, and everything fell to the floor. Within a week, she says, if her belt skipped a buckle they would turn to let her know — they had become her family. Acceptance came from how she carried herself, and from an ethic her boss drilled into her: honesty, accuracy, no games. She watched deals worth millions close on nothing but a handshake and a slip of paper. Once, simply passing a table, she was asked to hold a fancy red diamond — among the rarest in the world — and in holding it became the broker on the deal.

I can look at a stone and tell you if it’s mine or not. That deep looking has stayed with me forever.
Miami · 1992

Baguette Mondial

When Malka came to the United States, she set out to open her own diamond office. A well-known manufacturer in Israel — a deeply religious man from Belz she had befriended years earlier on the trading floor — offered a partnership: he would manufacture in Israel, she would run Miami. She named the company Baguette Mondial, after the baguettes and fancy square cuts he specialized in.

Success came almost at once. In her first week, jewelers filled her office and she worked until nine at night — because she knew the stones, knew how to sort them for the exact piece each customer was making, and understood what most didn’t: when everything ships by mail, you get one chance to be right. Over the years she expanded far beyond baguettes into all sizes, fancy cuts and fancy colors, and the business grew on her name alone.

Today · Every Stone, by Hand

Measured Exactly

Malka personally calibrates every stone she sends — round, oval, marquise or radiant — checking length, width and depth against each customer’s request. Ask for a 1.3 mm round and you receive a 1.3 mm round; not something close, exactly that. Because shipping and insuring stones is costly, that accuracy saves her customers real money and spares them the returns most suppliers make routine.

She works as a partner, not just a source. When a store can picture a piece but isn’t sure what it needs, she pulls stones from inventory, photographs them side by side at different measurements, and sends images the store can show its own customer — a selection of shapes and sizes, with easy returns on the rest. Ask for F color, and F color arrives. In all her years she has never had a stone rejected for failing to match what was requested — a record she counts among her proudest.

People trust me. They don’t even check my goods anymore.

Invisible Setting · On Request

Grooving Available to Order

On request, stones can be cut with fine grooves along the girdle so they lock into a metal rail with no prongs in sight — the invisible setting. It lets a cluster of stones read as one larger stone, and sets seamless fields for watch bezels and pavé-style pieces. It’s a painstaking, specialist cut that few manufacturers offer; ask for it and Malka calibrates and grooves each stone to sit shoulder to shoulder in a seamless field of light.

One Standard

Measured by Hand, Every Time

Every stone is personally calibrated and checked against your request — length, width and depth. Ask for F color and F color arrives; ask for a 1.3 mm round and that is exactly what ships. We hold tapered baguettes in all sizes — including large goods such as 8 × 4.6 mm in EF / VVS, or any color you require. Large certified goods are supplied to the same standard. In all her years, Malka has never had a stone rejected for failing to match what was asked.
